The team has been discussing how best to deal with the annoying, lazy, and overly prevalent "Gimme Teh Codez" topics that often clutter the help forums here at Dream.In.Code. After several weeks of discussion, we have instituted a new policy to deal with these types of topics.
From now on, forum leaders, mentors, moderators, admins, and myself will remove posts that simply ask for code and place them in a non-public forum (called "Gimme Teh Codez"
) so they do not appear in search engines or clutter the help forums.
The topics will also have a standard reply added to them which is emailed to the topic starter and the topic will be closed.
You can see the canned reply in any of the topics in this forum: http://www.dreaminco...imme-teh-codez/
Over the next week, we will be removing the [ rules ] tag and encourage those of you who like to remind people of the rules to simply report the topic using the "Report" button in each post. Not every topic that does not include code is a "Gimme Teh Codez" topic. Only those that blatantly ask for code for an entire project, or just copy/paste their homework assignment are considered "Gimme Teh Codez" topics. People asking for guidance or just a little help getting started should receive the appropriate help, not be given a canned reply like [ rules ].
All of these changes are meant to improve the overall quality of topics and replies here at Dream.In.Code. Too many topics are turning up in search engines with the [ rules ] reply and nothing else. And too many members are playing the role of moderator, some so much so that almost 90% of their replies are just [ rules ] or something similar.
If you aren't a forum leader, mentor, moderator, or an admin, please just report posts that violate our rules so we can remove them from public view and inform the topic starter.

hmm.. This is a good thing.. I checked out the forum and there is one more thing that can be done.. You see the topics will be coming from all over the forums and sometimes it will be hard to tell what language it is.. Either you could add a "Imported From" or "Language" column to the forum..
Why Neo.. Why???

Just a few days ago I saw the 'Gimme teh Codez' forum and I thought it was only used for development purposes and testing.
Anyway, its is good move.

I really like the idea.
I haven't clicked on anything, but appears like reputation giving still works in "Gimme Teh Codez". If that's the case, may I suggest disabling it once it's moved? (Afterall, if the thread is there, I think we can all assume the quality of the post)

I'm having a hard time understanding this skyhawk, and I'm not entirely sure you guys know what you're doing. I'd like to review what you've come up with. Please Gimme Teh Codez.

Nice! And judging by the posts beginning to accumulate in the gimmie-teh-codez forum it is working like a charm.
