Adventures in Teaching: Session 3

... and now, the thrilling conclusion of our neurotic instructor series!

Last Thursday marked the third and final two-hour session of my continuing education course on online business promotion.

I had worked up three case studies - using actual, big-money clients from my days coding in the corporate world - one focusing on an extreme success, one an extreme failure and the third a no-change-to-the-client's bottomline scenario.

As in the first session, my students were engaged... taking notes quite feverishly, asking questions, participating in group discussion and small, interactive activites.

The class went swimmingly well. Two hours passed as though in minutes. I bid my lovely students farewell and passed out the required end-of-course instructor evaluation forms as they exited the room.

Some expressed feelings of sadness that it was over. Some expressed interest in taking additional courses. Some even expressed interest in returning for credit courses and earning degrees.

Earlier this afternoon, I was handed the final student evaluation composite. The end result: quite awesome.

More than 50% of my students requested that I proceed to teach more classes dealing with the world of the Internet, suggestions ranged from an advanced course in online marketing and SEO to web development for the absolute beginner to how-to classes on commonly used content management systems.

100% of my ragtag little band of students indicated they would be more likely to take additional courses at the College if I were teaching them.

The response from the Continuing Education Department? "Can you type up a list of the kinds of courses you would consider to be 'in your comfort zone' and how often you would be willing to teach so we can start piecing together our summer course schedule?"

Yay! I done good!
