When I asked a woman why her son had chosen computer science as his major, her reply was "Well he likes checking his facebook and being on the computer all day".
Hmmm..okay.

I have to say, these two sentences (three if you count the quote separately), have summed up so much with so little. I can't tell you how many people I've encountered like this. Those that think computer science is just an excuse to 'social network', or an escape for those who can't succeed in other fields.
I admit, I like checking my Facebook, and being on the computer all day, but that's not the reason I'm choosing to study computer science. I'm in it because I find computers fascinating, and I love the science behind them.
This made me think about the world. Great post!

Heh! I have asked a couple of people as to why they have chosen computer science. They say "Computer engineering is the easiest of all engineering fields". Every time I hear this reply from a person I am like "WTF?"

Yeah I got a lot of replies like that from my classmates in some of the freshman CS classes, and they seemed to be genuinely surprised that they failed the class.

And 99% of these wrong-headed bastards end up here begging for us to do their homework for them too. /facepalm
