Inside my coding addiction, part one

Steve Wozniak makes it quite clear in his autobio that coding is addictive. This is especially true when I began testing my code roughly every hour. When you see that perfect test come back it really gives you a rush. I was coding about 50 to 60 hours during the summer but now I have to do other stupid shit so I can only code about 3 or 4 hours...

33 minutes, 19 lines, 23% more speed!

Icon 2 Comments
I know these posts where the coder brags about how much they sped up their code are pretty boring but this is one case where I just can't resist. I have a code of about 6000 lines, I spent 36 minutes planning how to write the code, and then 33 minutes actually writing 19 lines of new code. Without one bug, I managed to speed the code up from...

Three sentences

Sometimes I get upset because my code is so brilliant but it will probably be about 3 years before anyone reads it and is able to pat me on the back for it. On the other hand, back when I was writing horrible spaghetti code, I thought it was brilliant then too. So maybe it's not all that brilliant.

Don't make the mistakes I made

The biggest mistake I made coming to coding was thinking that it was easy and that there was not that much to learn. I hated reading books about coding. I made a very strong and sincere effort to read these books but every time I tried reading them after 45 minutes my head would grow numb and nauseous. I find this very paradoxical because I...

I finally coded 66 hours in a week!

A while back I listened to the audio book Hackers
https://www.amazon.c...eywords=hackers

and was amazed that people could routinely code for 30 hours straight. Well, I finally made a milestone that is somewhat respectable: 66 hours in a week. My previous record for coding in a week was 49 hours. Admittedly, I'm using modanifil to help...

Calculating how much global variables slow a python program down

Icon Leave Comment
I knew I had a set of about 6 variables that I needed to make global. I have a code of 6519 logical lines of code, divided into 211 functions, that's 30.9 LLOC per function. I'm refactoring right now and trying to get that number down to around 20 or 25. In any case, I would say in about 75% of those functions, I would use one of the 6...
