Fair warning, I'm about to give a company some praise, of which I was not paid for.

--

I was browsing around for the best deal on a textbook I need for graduate school this fall and Amazon was ~$15 cheaper then anyone else. As soon as I added it to my cart the price jumped ~6 bucks. WTF? So I call up Amazon (all prepared to bitch about this shady-ness), wait less then a minute on the phone (I have the old page up and my cart prepared to do battle), and the guy issues a $7 dollar promotional credit on the spot to adjust for the random jump.

Awesome!

Since this really is a technical oriented blog, there should be some technical jibber jabber: I did not figure out if the page I was looking at was an old cache (I had been browsing last week), but it shouldn't have been since I usually clean it out often and there was a hurricane (no relationship, just wanted to plug Irene). If it was, then it might explain the price jump since it might not have been instantaneous, although I would not put it past a company to use my browsing history to make an educated guess as to when I might purchase an item and hike the price.

Thank you Amazon.

So what did he tell you? What went wrong? Looks like your silence has been bought.

He didn't know, so he gave the credit.

Screw him! Not doing his job well! At least you gain something from it and he still gets to keep his job because you didn't go all berserk on him, ^^

You get more bees with honey then you do with vinegar.

Amazon is pretty awesome, yea. I recently ordered a DVD and did not notice that it had subtitles that could NOT BE TURNED OFF until I started watching. So I mailed that sucker back to amazon and got a full refund. No questions asked. There was fine print on the back of the DVD saying that subtitles cannot be turned off, but seriously, who reads that? In general, I've never had any problems with amazon. A lot of other companies try to blame their mistakes on me, even when it's clearly not my fault (unlike the subtitle thing, which was at least somewhat my fault). In the long run, this pays off for amazon, though, at least with me. I am a very loyal customer and I do not forget how I am treated. Conversly, if treated badly, I can be very vengeful and you will never do buisness with me again if I can help it.

I thought that's what the extra dollar was for. ;)

For the most part, I view Amazon as a decent company to deal with. Glad to see they're upholding that rep.

Amazon has done some seriously awesome things for me. Their address validator can't handle my street address for some reason, so I emailed them about it and they added the address for me manually.

Who wants to gather flies? I could turn a profit with my collection of worker bees?
