Vexiest Version, Verily

Icon Leave Comment
While I'd love to do everything in the style of V for Vendetta that isn't what's happening here. Namely, I'm just continuing my rant on the current experimental upgrades to Mimesis. So, continuing from last time I said I was seeking to do three things in the future (which arrived more immediately than I suspected originally):

One...

Experiments in Packing and Unpacking

Icon Leave Comment
So, I pulled another piratey move and completely reworked the Mimesis system. Yeah, I know its getting old already; can't be helped. For whatever reason I keep coming up with "improvements". Just so happens I may have broken some stuff along the way, but I'm not going to dwell so neither should you.

What am I doing differently?...

A Helpful Fix for an FFDB?

Icon Leave Comment
No one responded to my previous blog entry which I surmise is because I have very few readers. After all, without some sort of knowledge of Mimesis who would bother to write anything about it? Nevertheless, going on my original assumption I noted that my HITS table (the one leaving behind defunct locks) was 250 kb worth of data. The actual data...

Need Ideas and Help with Mimesis v1.06

Icon 1 Comments
Alright, if you venture over to my Mimesis page you can read up on the new changes I made to Mimesis, which I don't care to reiterate. So here's the main difference. The function singularID is no longer being used because there is no need to generate or check IDs. Second, the register_shutdown_function and ignore_user_abort native PHP...

Mimesis v1.05n

Well its released. Code is a lot cleaner and more efficient. Got rid of two files that I didn't need. Check it out. I think you'll be happy with the results.

Experimental Update 1

Icon Leave Comment
More and more code changes keep compounding. Furthermore, some errors unearthed and remedied. Not of critical importance, nevertheless pertinent to update. So let's start at the beginning.

The most important modification that's been made is the tracking of two "metrics", along with the change in how rows are deleted from the...

Experimental Mimesis

Yeah I know I said last time that it was the last time I would have a version change for Mimesis, but in all fairness I stated that I'm always saying that. In all fairness stuff just comes to you sometimes, and sometimes you just see things you hadn't seen before suddenly become clear.

So let's talk about what was amiss. In the prior...

Mimesis v1.04n

Icon 2 Comments
v1.04n is out. I don't really know what I was thinking with version 1.03n. I suppose in some ways I was sort of looking to simplify things as the most pertinent issue right now with Mimesis is the occurance of defunct locks.

Defunct locks are a Mimesis exclusive phenomenon. Since Mimesis uses actual physical files as its mutex construct,...

Mimesis v1.02n

Icon 1 Comments
ok so I've been having some permission issues due to my lack of familiarity with Linux servers on my 110mb host. Apparently when I use my CPanel or FTP I'm given a different owner ID then when a PHP script executes. Whereupon created files by the PHP script are given the owner ID that is in fact my group ID. Its caused me quite a bit of...

Pando Search Engine

Icon 2 Comments
I may have written about this previously somewhere, but whatever the case I realized that my pando search engine site had actually been used for something recently, but it was producing some errors. So I revamped the look of the site and now instead of using the XML documents provided by the Pando web developer api, I cache the results into a...

In need of Latin?

Et tu Dreame?

I've been developing some websites recently and realized that I've been using that latin filler text that begins with "Lorem Ipsum" frequently in order to help with layout and such. I've since gotten bored of seeing the same text over and over so I figured, why not make my own random generator of latin text? So...

New FFDB Snippets

Just wanted to let folks know that I made the code available for the shoutbox I've been using on the Mimesis site. Also, while chatting around in the IRC channel it occurred to me that DIC doesn't keep a log of the chats. So I created an IRC Chat Logger bot that uses a Mimesis database to track all public conversations within the channel...

New URL Up

Icon Leave Comment
Sweet, now I've got a cooler looking URL for my Mimesis site. It's http://mimesys.co.cc/. Sadly, mimesis.co.cc was $3 as opposed to mimesys which was free. Since I'm a cheap pirate I'll deal with the incongruency. So all due credit to co.cc for giving away free domain names. Does that mean I'll be renaming to software?...

Hurray for the power of iframe! err object...

Well if you visited my page recently you may have noticed that I was trying to work an AJAX ShoutBox onto my Contact page (of my own design of course). When I tested locally on my computer everything worked fine and dandy. However, on the net it kept tossing errors. I somehow came to the conclusion that it was a problem with the asynchronous...

Added a geolocation tutorial to the Mimesis site. Check it out if you want to know who's visiting your site from where.
