Right now I have two ads on my site. Google Adsense and I have my affiliate links to Amazon that link to my books. I'm wondering if it is worth it to add more. I see many sites that have six to twelve. Just wondering what a good number is. I don't want to litter my site with ads as each page is only one window long.

Start small, grow the site out and see what happens to your nice steady traffic when you introduce a new ad. Personally I think four should be the max, but it really depends on the layout of your site and how "intrusive" they are.

But slowly work them in and if you think adding an extra ad won't effect your traffic too much, then add it. But once your site grows and has a steady stream of regular visitors then you can try out different ads in different locations to see how it effects your traffic (lookup the terms Multi-variant and AB testing for more information). Plus you will have a sounding board from your regulars on what is working and what isn't.

Don't blitz your site from the start because then no one will get interested in returning to your site.

Everything you said makes sense to me. I'll just keep the two ads for now. I'm planning on adding two or three short stories a week, once I start getting more visitors I may try and add more.

Agreed, start small. People will see your ads if they are positioned well. Sites adding multiple ad spots look desperate like they really need the money, kinda like CLICK ME CLICK ME.

Kepp it small and people will appreciate it.
