i think theres somthing wrong with my css file in firfox my site looks good just the way i want it but in ie it looks horriable the side bars etc are all over the place

I don't think it's your CSS file, I recommend using a doctype and validating your HTML and then fixing the errors which may help, also have a look at using a CSS framework such as Blueprint, which will greatly improve cross-browser compatibility of your site.

Well, its main selling point is its reset feature which gets rid of (or tries to) any nasty inconsistencies with margins and padding of elements. It also works on a grid system so you can position stuff while being confident it'll display the same on pretty much any browser you use.

But I think the main thing you need to do is try and get your HTML to validate first of all.

Well, yeah that's your first important step, put in a doctype, then you can run your page through the HTML validator and see what errors it comes up with.
