I have knowledge of PHP but I am total naive to MySQL. I can't visualize how the databases, website and the sql command line tie all up together. I have my own personal site at AwardSpace and they have a special section for MySQL. They allow us to create MySQL databases there but I can't figure out where these databases are stored. Could anyone help me out?

Does Microsoft Visual Web Developer have anything to do with MySQL? I have an Express version of it installed. Can I use it to make MySQL databases?

Topics merged, do not create duplicates smile.gif

Also, this has nothing to do with Web Servers & Hosting so I'm moving it to the Databases forum.

Visual Web Developer is nothing to do with MySQL, you could download the Connector/.NET, which (I believe) lets you create databases on a remote server.

The databases are stored in the server's hard disk, you don't access the files directly, using SQL commands is the only way (to normal users).

You basically use it as a place to store data, user information, comments, whatever.

If you're going to be using MySQL with PHP, it's probably best to just read the PHP docs on MySQL directly.

Thanks. I think that answers all my questions.

@PsychoCoder, sorry, I didn't mean to post duplicates. You should not have merged them, just delete one of them.
