so i'm new to the programming scene.

where should i start?

a ruby specialist stopped by our class and i just started the ruby in 20 mins tut.

would oop be a better start?

If you know no language at all, I'd recommend you start with something more basic like Java, that way you can nail your basic logic and build on it.

Java is *not* an easier language to start with, Ruby is as good as any. That said, Java may be a fine language by itself - but in my opinion Ruby is slightly better as a first language.

Try Learn to Program for getting an intro to programming in Ruby.

Starting in Ruby is as OO as it gets. Everything is an object, everythink has methods. Going to Java, you would realize that Java isn't nearly as Object-Oriented as Ruby.
