I am assuming this is not your own custom chat program. What would you need their IP address for?

Umm, yah...that's kind of a vague question considering how many different kinds of "chat" there are.
And by what methods are you referring to, in code? Which language?
Or just in general?
And as kmangold inquired, what use would a particular persons ip address have to you?
You need to elaborate, apparently I am not fluent in smiley-face.
