hello!
I wanna post my website on the internet and i have this dilema.
there are numerous hosting sites which claim to offer up to 5 GB of space for free with no advertising. How can this be possible? Is there a scam?

thanks!

No, I don't think it's a scam but unless you are going to stream movies or music from your site or put up a ridiculously large image gallery you would never need that amount of space anyway, 1gb is enough for the most basic sites.

The problem with free hosting is that you're often not guaranteed uptime and the traffic is very limited. I would suggest you to go and buy some real hosting from a serious hosting company. There are plenty of cheap ones out there, you simply have to find them! smile.gif

I use One.com, never had any problems with them, and they've got the best support ever! 24/7 Live Chat Support!

And also, they're not expensive!

Check them out:

Hope you find something! smile.gif

if your not willing to drop the money 000webhost has some decent free 1.5 gb hosting without adds but if you improperly link a page it will reroute the user to their website.
the reason these companies have free hosting is because they have the available bandwidth and server storage. If they can offer this out to people for free then maybe they can get some money if the user needs more room or a real domain name.

Since most Window OS have or can easily add a Server. I have added a Static IP address to my computer through the local BroadBand Cable Internet Connection. It was simple, and it's cost effective in comparison to other hosting advents. Plus, I have a hosting account through APlus.Net - I'm still learning alot about Domain Hosting, Servers, LAN/WAN/WAP, and Programming in General. But, I figured if your on top of things you could probably quickly research and implement the Domain Name to resolve to a Static IP Address and host direct from your Computer.

it may be ideal for testing though since there are high chances that upload speeds will be an issue
