Just bought Battlefield 2. It's the first game I've bought new for the PC in a couple of years (I realize it's a pretty old game, but I wanted to play online).

Realized after it arrived that I wouldn't be able to play it unless I had the CD in my computer, which is a problem because my only computer with Windows conveniently has no CD drives.

Normally I would just make an image of the CDs on my laptop, and then copy them over the network to my Windows box. Of course because of this shitty copy protection if I do that I will need a nocd patch, and then I won't be able to play online.

Basically right now I am regretting buying this game. If I wanted to play offline with bots I could have just used the pirated copy I already have laying around somewhere...

Seeing if I can find an old IDE cdrom drive now... What a pain in the ass.

Nope, after I got everything installed I took out the dvd drive so I could use 4 hard drives. 99% of the time if I need something off a cd/dvd I can just use my laptop and the copy it over the network.

I'm not really looking for a technical solution to this, I've unplugged one of my hdd's and put in a dvd drive for now. It just frustrates me that this stupid copy protection is in place to begin with (especially considering that you can't play any of these games online without a cdkey anyway).

Get slysoft virtual clone drive and then download and mount the mini image from this page. http://www.gameburnworld.com/gp/gamefixes/battlefield2.shtml

I don't use the CD after installation for BF2 anymore.

Good tip, I'll give that a try. It just makes me mad that I actually paid for the game, and yet I still have to put up with this garbage.
