I'm thinking of starting working on a web cam application for capturing, recording and saving streams from a web cam. I know I can use either WIA or AVICAP via Win32, or even using DirectShow. Can I get some input from other developers on which you think would be the best route to go, and why?

No opinions at all? Well from what I've been reading I think WIA is out as it appears to only be supported on XP, anyone know if this is true or not? If it is then I'm stuck using AVICAP w/Win32 then

(HAHA now I get to be the thread bumper tongue.gif )

Sorry i just utilize others webcam sites smile.gif

What O/S your hosting on?

If Win, thought of using SilverLight? or your more focused towards a Flash player approach?

Just interested myself cause you would need to have alot bandwidth communication and unless your hosting at your home, most business hosting companies will give you so little bandwidth (for this type) that you might get 15 days IF you get 100 users each day for the watching.

This is going to be a WinForm application, not a web based application, though version II might have an option of a web version (bandwidth really isn't much of a problem for me).

I'm going to move this to the C# forum to see if it can get a little more action

I was looking at doing this not long ago. I think DirectX is a decent way to go. There's an article on CodeProject.com that included a library that had a pretty complete implementation.

it's here...
