Hm. Once upon a time I built a document management app that would Verity index a PDF producing the OCR layer of the PDF for searching. However, PDFs can be produced without an OCR layer to index which would neuter that way from the get go.

Not sure there's any other way to dismantle and effectively decode a PDF into it's original pieces (images, tables, text, etc) so they can be edited.

As i know u can transform a PDF to a .DOC file, it will have images and text that can be edited, but i`m not saying i`m sure.

I actually am building an app for that right now. My client has a PDF file that needs to be edited on the fly so I just built a simple form asking for header, body, and footer text and they can put it is and it will dynamically create a PDF from that, while also putting the content in the DB. The only problem that I am having with it is the header and footer sections look really bad with the images that needed to be there.
