Well the news just said that we have troops on the ground in North Korea and are on high alert. If this is the case this could be very, very bad. Granted something needs to be done, and this needs to be dealt with swiftly, because if we don't there is at least one more country that will test out resolve when it comes to nuclear weapons.
Can anyone confirm the troops on the ground in North Korea and have been put on high alert?
I read the troops in and around North Korea are on high alert. No confirmation of touchdown in North Korea as that would probably trigger a conflict instantly.
I haven't heard about them actually being in the country, just South Korea. I think they should just go in and assassinate Jong-il once and for all. Just a quick assassination. If the CIA can kill Kennedy, they can kill his crippled douche ass. Then put a good S.K. leader in there to de-brainwash the people then let them choose their own leader.
Besides, Saddam had mountains to hide in. North Korea doesn't really have that many, do they? And we kidna made a big deal outta searching for Saddam. If we quietly try to assassinate Jong-il it would be easier. Besides, Saddam is a pussy. Jong-il is slightly egotistical, so I'd imagine he'd be on his throne most of the time anyways, not hiding.

They're very secretive and intense about everything. North Korea is a very frightening place. I remember when I asked the exchange student about it and he's visited it before. He didn't know English that well but he gave me this worried look and just said "Everyone there has guns".
Also there's the fact that the first leader of North Korea will always be the leader even if he's dead. Some sort of weird "Eternal Leader". They also really take harshly to the Japanese invasion that happened before. Much harsher than South Korea. You could visit North Korea if you weren't a citizen of South Korea, but apart from what you'll find in textbooks and the like you won't know what they're up to.
We tried that with Saddam remember - our own people condemned us for doing the world a favor.
We accused Saddam of having WMD.
North Korea gloats about testing them.
I've been saying this since we went into Iraq ... the 2nd time. You have North Korea & Iran, both of whom gloat about testing their nukes, flexing their muscle, & doing everything that we accused Iraq of. Yet... we end up in Iraq, broke, & low on oil.
We should send in Tom Cruise with a brief case rigged w/ explosives. Even if he doesn't pull off the assassination, we still win
If any shit does go down the south Koreans aren't going to put up with it. Aside from being a hard working and overall nice people, they really do not want to foot the bill to reunite the two countries considering the north has damn near no infrastructure. So a good ol' war would be good.
Now, the reason it probably won't go down is because:
a. Any conflict hurts China's business--this isn't the 1950's the Chinese are all about making money b. Same deal for Japan c. You can only starve your people for so long before they get tired of all the bullshit, I'm surprised a revolution hasn't occurred already
I'm glad I saw the DMZ last year, may be gone soon.
edit: Psycho we don't have troops on the ground "in" North Korea, unless you consider Pannejeuom[sic] to be in both countries.

When did Iran test their nukes? They claim their nuclear program is for powering the country and even the IAEA have said there is no proof that they are enriching the uranium to an extent where it could be used for weapons.
NK on the other hand is blatantly standing there mooning everyone and slapping the world about the face. Sooner or later, someone will overstep and Kim Jong-il will snap and launch something at someone. Again, I don't think it will be a nuke. not yet anyways.
