Hi.

Should a pseudocode section or subsection be introduced? I know for a fact that pseudocode should be the first step in writing any program and so an area for pseudocode/flowcharts etc would be vital, not only for the experienced, but also for beginners. So what do you think? Is it not that important, or would it just not work at DIC?

Discuss. Thanks.

Personally, I'd have to say that I'm against this idea. When someone comes to the forums looking for help, we ask them to show us their code - because that's where the problem is. In a pseudocode situation, there's no way to compile their code, or test it for bugs - and because everyone's pseudocode is different, you probably wouldn't want to.

In situations where someone has designed something that they want some feedback on, those topics tend to show up in the "<foo> Programming" forums - Game Programming, Software Development, etc. I think that those forums are a perfect place for pseudocode and design discussions.

Even if you show them the general idea of how to implement something, they still ask how to specifically implement it in whatever programming language they're using.

Pseudocode is important for things like describing algorithms or demonstrating concepts, not for prototyping programs. The Software Development forum is really a "pseudocode" forum.
