Hey guys, i just started making my personal website. This is the first website I have done(Im not an internet programmer). All I really have done so far is the homepage which i created from scratch(buttons and banner either in paint or photoshop). Can you guys tell me what you think of the layout/looks of my homepage? I realize that optimus prime is not a very professional thing to have on my website(even though it looks sweet)... so the pic will probably change.
Hm, looks very minimalist. I would suggest lightening the grey of the background a bit so there isn't quite such a contrast between that and the site content. Looks fine.
to [resume] i wouldnt use a iframe, try to avoid frames and iframes, such as tables
to the whole site as mentioned already, it looks very minimalistic! fill out the huge white space with something, but not to much
i'd say the navigation is way to huge... make it smaller and use text instead of pictures if its possible, because then you can do a roll-over effect! it lets it look more like a hyperlink
Display some photoshop skills in there. If you don't know how to use it there are pretty much an unlimited number of them online. Make it flashier. Personal sites are supposed to display your talent.
hey guys ive made some changes based on your replies... I did some work in photoshop and made a new banner/buttons. I havent changed any of the pages yet im trying to figure our a theme first. Let me know what you think and thanks to everyone who has already commented!
Any ideas as to where to put the buttons? I was thinking of making a bar across the top(just under the banner).. but then what would fill the rest? I dont know what else I'd put lol
yea the buttons are a lot better now, i like the new header, except of that olive green
why did you change the original colours of optimus prime? he looks a bit silly now
This will might help you, to create a horizontal navigation! you could fill the white space with text? fill it with a introdution text or write down the latest news that you want to announce

Ok im getting closer to how I want my webpage thanks to everyones comments. Here is what I have now thanks to toxic terrors post. Any ideas as to what I should put between the buttons? the grey spacers are kinda ugly.
Good to see that you are using complimentary colors. The image for the header is nice too, goes with the rest of the color scheme. Optimus is cool but you might want to lose him but it does show competency with image processing, perhaps another image. About the spaces between the menu, perhaps you could use a background image like you did with the header or you could put a gradient with two of the colors from your color palette. Or, you could make roll over buttons with the horizontal menu.
I think it looks nice, overall. Now to be critical: There's a random image of a leaf in the middle of nowhere off to the left, which is weird. You look like you've just discovered the gradient tool. It looks good in the banner image but outdated and cheap in the navigation section. There is no reason your buttons need to be images. It's quicker and more accessible to make them styled text. This also has the benefit of being easy to change in the future when you realise you've lost the original .psd file. If you intend this to be a site to show your talents, you should fix the HTML, which is wonky in places, eg, the should go in the head, styles should be in a separate file rather than inline, doctype missing, etc.

How do I make styled text? Do i just make images and then have the links as text over them?
and Toxic Terror: you must have looked at my site during the few seconds that I didnt have my style page uploaded lol. it should be fixed now
