hi there,

I and two friends of mine intend to setup a media server receiving streams from multiple ip cameras numbering in hundreds.

I've been searching for some good open source solutions and intend to choose icecast.

What I know as of yet is that ip camera will send stream to icecast and then we 'll be able to manipulate it as necessary.

What I am not clear about is :

do I need to install a client software on ip camera to send streams to icecast?
or
does it depend on the camera I am using ?

will icecast be able to handle four to five hundred streams at a time?

thanks in advance

Pardon me for sounding a little bit rude. But wouldn't this best be suited as an email to the team that maintain icecast?

They have an IRC channel, you could use that too.

I'd say this doesn't relate to programming at all.
