Hi all,

I would like to create a small computer game. I cannot pay, but it would be a freeware game, so yeah. Just basically a bit of free fun for everyone. Anyone welcome to help. Contact at miloburchell@gmail.com.

Look forward to seeing you. tongue.gif

I'm a bit confused... do you want help creating a game, or want someone to create one for you? If you want help creating a game, I recommend either the DarkBASIC Programming Language or The Games Factory 2. They are both easy to use. icon_up.gif

Check out either DarkGDK, or SDL they are both graphics/ game engines that are powerful and easy to use. Games using DarkGDK can't be sold without paying Microsoft royalties, but SDL is okay with you selling your creations with it.

Once again, I'm just looking to build a small team (2 coders, spriter, 3d modeler?, sound guy ect.) for a little game, perhaps c or java.

I'm not looking for cheapo game builders.

I think you forgot to say what the game will be about. We can't really commit to something when all the information available is "we make game together".

As I said, I'm open to ideas.

Have you any experience with Java?
I was thinking of making a game with Java. Obviously I don't want to advertise my ideas since I do hope to make this into a living.

man ... if u wana make a game u can't just say "hey guys lets make a game !" and we group and make one aimlessly XD it will be a time wasting buggy and in a big mess, will my first game i made was like that i was making it to learn VB6 and it was around 13k line and it was in a bigggggg mess, i mean some codes don't use loop --' it was a big bullshit ... but do u know what ... it was playable ... why ? i don't encourage u to do that but it was playable cause i put a big effort on it.

i am sure we all as programmers made games small ones then bigger ones and some kept making them cause it is a good way to learn a new language, but to make one we have to know some management and what do i mean is to put some notes before start coding u can call it a design , i don't follow a standard one but i will be happy to share it to u to have an idea.

I - first thing first ... u need to know what is ur or ur team limit, which language u can program in and how far u can go with it , i mean u can't make a game like the ones that in E3 ... if u wanna use a feature that u don't know in ur game it is better to learn it and test it on a new project before using it in game, some of these limition

1- graphics device ... will it on DirectX9 OpenGL or simply paint function ?
2- will it be single player or multiplayer ? if multiplayers will it on same keyboard ? that's not a nice idea u might try let ur code recognize a joystick or make the game take turns like chess.
3- using music and sounds in ur game
4- run it on network
5- and so on, keep putting what code u can do to make it useful in ur game

II - Game Type , will before thinking about if it is RPG or FPS think about a long term or short term game, what do i mean ? will games are types some of them can be played in a long term usually RPG types like this ... these games don't die easily that's why i like them for example Pokemon look at it XD it will never die i guess , other type are short like Flash games on all the net, some games r played the same whenever u play it it is static like chess and solitaire , so before u think about making a game think about which players will u make the game for ?

then with these two info u can decide which game u will make puzzle RPG FPS or a unique type even.

III - Focus on what ? will games usually focus on stuff ... Gameplay , Graphics and music , storyline , style ... usualy old games depends on Storyline or the gameplay, cause the console itself can't handle good graphics but now days games focus on graphics cause players don't wanna think anymore ... will u might say why not focusing on all of them ? will u can do that but ur game will take forever to make it XD trust me i tried that and i still have unfinished games cause of that

IV- after knowing ur or ur team limit and have an idea how far ur game can go to and finally decided what kind of games is it (RPG FPS Puzzle ... Etc) now it is time to design ur game, i use a big notebook with blue cover to design my games and programs, it is always better to use papers in this stuff, in game design there is no right way to do it, but it will helps allot to make the game faster and gives a clear idea how the game will look like, u can even play it in ur mind XD will anyway some stuff would look like :

1- whats the game style and name
2- how the game would be played ? whats player capable to do in game, describing the game menu GUI and the options that the player can do
3- set of characters in ur game if it has and some info about them and a picture for them would be lovely
4- the story line if there is one and describe each stage or chapter with details
5- some functions and classes in the game like Collide() or Monster class , focus in the design on the big one

======================
will i don't mean any harm or wanna say something to show others i am expert or stuff , i am a beginner in game programing too and i made around 14 small games in VB6 each have less then 100 LOC (Line of code) and 3 big ones (around 23k line of code each ) but the problem is all of them in Arabic, i have 3 games in Java and i can share them here but to laze to do so dry.gif nothing encourages me to do that unfortunately and one in C++.

i learn allot in making games how to make stuff in programing language but my graphics ability is below zero XP that's another reason no one play them or even think to share them i tried to shared them in Arabic sites but it failed no one like them, my last games was build on design but still i made mistakes on some stuff but could get over it thanks for the design book, it make the coding easier clearer and morever if u couldn't finish whats in ur design in ur code in time u can make it for later versions. if u lost ur data for ur game by mistake \ virus \ format or HDD crash or whatever reason u lost the code if u have the design ur half work won't go anywhere, cause the design is more important then the code (depend on the project), will hope i gave u an idea how to start making a profession look like game and i am happy to help u if u need help just send me a message anytime, about ideas after u have an idea how ur game will look like and have a team u can use Brain Storming with ur team to make good ideas for the games after making sure everyone is ready and serious about it and have a good creative mind and have good behavior with the others to make wonderful ideas.
