So I am working with a coldfusion powered online store. Currently the store allows me to enter options for products which queries a db and loops through the options adding them to a drop down selection.

However, the store if for vinyl. Which would include selling letters and numbers in various fonts. Thus I would prefer the be able to show that font for whatever they enter if possible. I have seen a few implementations of PHP using imagemagik and some flash implementations of product configurators.

Could anyone point me in the right direction for the easiest way to implement a font preview feature ? It could be simply for the font or it could expand to include color and size as well. As I am still so new to programming, I am not sure if I should look at flex and coldfusion - or perhaps javascript.

Anyone with any experience in this area able to shed some light?

Thanks much!

I'm unsure with regards to using fonts natively via php. However, if you have gd available for use, you could create each glyph for a font set in high resolution. Then, using gd you could read the images and display a preview, if you needed to change the colors you could alter them using transforms via gd as well as resize them to lower resolutions. If you use flash it would be possible to interface with PHP and load up the particular flash application that handles a given font, then pass the parameters necessary to it in order to show the embedded font to whatever specifications you require.
