Hello Dreamincode,

I'm in great need of software that can draw up for me design plans for a project of mine. I'm looking for something that can create boxes that I can label for different stages of development, departments, or resources and connect them with arrows to show design steps, changes, etc.

Does anything like this exist?

I know microsoft project can create timecharts to manage the actual project completion and show who did what, but I need something to help me draw out the actual design plan.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

MSPaint? There might be some UML making programs online somewhere you could do that stuff with. I would suggest AutoCAD but that's not that programs purpose tongue.gif Though it does have tools to do that...

This is exactly what you're looking for:

UML Architect

It carries a hefty price tag though.

I mentioned Microsoft Project very clearly in my first post. I haven't actually used it, so I was asking if it had anything to help plan out the development of a project, not just the management of the users and time sheets. Does it in fact let me draw design diagrams for a project?

Thanks for the link to UMLet. Seems likea great program for drawing out design diagrams for software development and showing the relationships of objects and classes, but for basic project development (not software-related), it doesn't look like it will help.

I specifically stated in two different posts that I'm not asking about SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT SOFTWARE. I'm looking for something that can create stage/step diagrams for general projects (which dont necessarily have to be programming projects).

With that said, I can probably find someone who knows a good program to use in this forum anyway.

It looks like you want something like Visio (diagramming software). There's a few other diagramming software out there. Visio and OmniGraffle seem to be the really nice ones. I've used Visio. Not the latter. I've also used Dia. The interface and feature set is pretty basic, but it does the job if you need something for free and the basic diagrams.

Dia was perfect!

Crap... I meant Visio sorry! Glad you got it sorted now anyway.
