I have a customer that needs (needed?) a website recreated. After the website was completed, using both html & PHP, they said that none of the sites are "recognized" by FrontPage. I did a little bit of looking up on the program itself, but I'm not sure why standard html pages would not be viewable.

Any information, or informational sources, would be very very appreciated!

Isn't front page obsolete with the creation of expressions? I don't even want to know why they would even want to view the page in Front Page - but either way they are most likely trying to open PHP pages in browser view.

Have you verified they attempted the static HTML pages with the .html extension?

There are only two pages that are PHP, & neither of them are the index. So while I have not verified that specific detail, I think it's safe to assume that he has not. Until I can check the sites for myself, I'm going to assume that the html files threw the error.

Any chance you can convince the client to use something other than FrontPage? With a ton of other free options available (Visual Web Developer, Aptana Studio, etc) why use FrontPage? I've used it once and I wanted to kill myself.

I don't have an answer to your question, but FrontPage might have some sort of "config" file it creates with each project - kind of like how .NET projects have a web.config file. Thus if the site wasn't built in FrontPage, it might not be able to load the site. That's a total guess on my part, but knowing Microsoft products it could easily make sense.

Unfortunately no. I tried my best to explain that the PHP pages won't function or possibly even load because they are server side files & require a PHP server, but he/they absolutely insist that they continue to use FrontPage.

The html files do in fact load fine, so I'm going to find out more details before I post anymore questions tongue.gif
