I think this is a good idea but what would we make the gadget do?
Would it be something like the "New Posts" section?

Did you have any thoughts on what you think it should do?

I'll make this topic Featured so more people will see it and who know maybe we will be able to come up with something!! smile.gif

agreed, I think we should have one. However I think it should just read new topics for each of the popular programming forums. Kinda have tabs for each of something along those lines? Thoughts?

Cheers

This is an interesting idea. I think it could be really cool. The only problem is that it really can't do more than search and view topics unless we want people to login to DIC from their igoogle account, which I am not sure people would want to have to do.

So, I think searching for tutorials and snippets could probably be done fairly easily (don't know, never made a gadget for google), but taking it further may be problematic.

Thats right. How does DIC relate to Google and their gadgets. We use our own login name and our own separate email addresses so to a point, we are in our own world.

There may be a RSS gadget, possibly, so that could use the DIC RSS feed. ???

A way to read and respond to replies in subscribed topics would be nice.

Edit: firebolt, there are a lot of RSS gadgets for iGoogle.

I think showing the most recent posts made/new topics and maybe a search feature for the tutorials and snippets would be cool.

that is an epic idea. i think we should try to make it into a community like project. possibly just starting off as an RSS feed searching through snippets and tutorials then building up to a possible app that data phones could most likely use.

i suggest to seperate the dreamincode gadget in three type,
QUOTE

snippet
Tutorials
FeaturedPosts

snippet
this gadget would contains
1) the grid like structure of latest 5 snippets seperate for each language with sorting option
2) mostviewed snippets and toprated snippets amoung all the languages with sorting option

Tutorials
this gadget would contains
1) the grid like structure of latest 5 tutorials seperate for each language with sorting option
2) mostviewed tutorials and toprated tutorials amoung all the languages with sorting option

FeaturedPosts ......

still there might be a lot of things to seperate

Go to the home page, find the IPB Image RSS link in the section you wish to add to your Google page or Reader.

For example, go to the 'Recent Forum Posts' section on the home page and click the RSS symbol to the right of the title. You will be presented with the option to add it to your Google home page or the Reader.

You can also goto the Forums page and select a specific forum to receive RSS feeds.

How do you interpret "gadget"? It is an RSS feed gadget, which should be in your iGoogle.
