I've been considering making the transition from Photoshop CS3 to CS4. I haven't a clue what's new in CS4 (or what isn't), and I was wondering if anyone here has any insight. A friend of mine who's taking a couple classes involving Photoshop and editing suggested getting CS4 and I'm apprehensive for any new program I get anymore.

Well, I am not sure what CS3 has, but the move from CS2 to CS4 is a huge step. Photoshop had so many great updates and upgraded things I had wanted for so long I have actually started to use it (instead of Gimp, which I love). It loads quicker and everyhting I just love it!

Hardware acceleration, couple new tools, and massive gui change. Unless its your job to use photoshop, you will be fine w/ cs3

Cs3 is perfectly fine to be honest, I update my version every 2. Hardly any difference in Cs3 and 4 smile.gif

There's a ton of differences in CS4, and anyways why wouldn't you want the latest and greatest products?

honestly, workflow wise there isn't a HUGE difference for me between cs3 and 4. i normally only do the skip up after 2 photoshop releases.

however, one change that is cool imo, is (if you have a decent video card)
your gonna be able to render things crisply at any viewing size. before it was, 25, 50, 100 your gonna get something good to look at, now you could be at 33.342% and get a crisp image. helps alot with high res work.

there are things like that that are just incremental improvements but nice....

CS4 is fine. I don't see much problem with it except the implementation of tabs does get annoying for me.
