Hello,

I have just started to want to learn to program and I want to create an easy to create small browser based game. I was wondering what the easiest language to learn that is free and can be used on a mac.

flash. the trial version is free. u wont find anything easier than that really. and it still isnt really that easy

i understand that. but i just dont have a better answer for you. life aint free. maybe silverlight?? i think u can make applications with vb or c# using the express versions..... dont quote me on that though. i never looked into using any of it for online applications.

Well, if you are wanting completely free and works on a mac look into Javascript. It will be a ton of work (as you will have to maek all the animation classes, frame handlers and everything else on your own), but it is do able. Now there are problems with Javascript as well, first you will have to save everything in a cookie, which can be deleted fairly easily, or you have to pay for a server get Ajax working and have a server-side scripting and a database.

Im thinking of trying to do this in C++. Is that an option in browser based games?

No, C++ can't run in the browser. It only runs in the desktop or on the server.

Indeed, that would be a great idea. Silverlight is the way to go for interactive applications if you have experience with the .NET platform. You can use the SDK for free with a free IDE (bundled with .NET Framework).

Java is a good programming language for browser-based interactive application. If you have the time, take a look at it. Moreover, it is freely distributed and there are several development environments available for it, also free.
