This is the story the news should be covering continually. People like this that die are the ones that I shed a tear for. People like this that stand up for the rights of human beings are the paths to change.
I just saw this. People are horrible and great at the same time. We mourn for the dead, yet we kill the living. We make heroes of perverts and ignore those who fight for freedom.
I really wish i had something more meaningful to say.
Michael Jackson had way more of an impact in my life than this lady. This is not a troll post this is a fact. I grew up in the 80's before majority of you were even born.
You wanna talk about heroes, come talk to me about the US marine that was killed in Afghanistan during the first major offensive led by our nations finest - the largest of its kind since Viet-Nam.
Talk to me about my brothers and sisters overseas, my cousins in Germany, talk to me about my friends in the Army working on their third & fourth tours. Then we will talk about heroes.
Nykc. I know. I am in full support of troops, ours, Germany's, the Uk's, most countries, really. What i find most disgusting is how they are treated. People blame the troops for everything. "Oh, I can't afford to get another boob job, all because of this stupid war. If those jarheads, weren't busy degrading the world, we would be able to afford things. We need things." I heard one lady say. I almost punched her in the face. However, this lady is also a hero. In a different way. She had no gun, and she did not sacrifice herself to save her companions, but she fought against a regime. I have many friends wanting to join the military. One of them is already a Petty Officer (forgetting the rest of his rank). Men like him are heroes. However, these people are shadowed by the death of a 50 year old, who very well may have been a pedofile. There are several heroes, Micheal Jackson isn't one of them.
Call me dense, call me brutal, call me heartless of harsh but I don't see her as a hero. Yes the circumstances surrounding her death are horrific and tragic, but I just don't see how one call call her a hero. How can someone shot while protesting be called a hero, can someone please explain this to me.
I, like Nykc, grew up long before many of you were even born and Michael Jackson had much more of an impact on my life than someone killed while protesting.
I also served, so I can relate to the soldiers. When I was a child in the 80's I remember wanting to be Michael Jackson. Did you know he used to be black? I did, I had the Beat It jacket and Glove to prove it. I still rock the white socks and black pants on occasion.
I saw Boyz II Men tonight perform in Dublin, OH. They sang a tribute to MJ "Human Nature" one hell of a song. I am sure most of you aren't aware of Boys II Men either. Well to sum it up, one of the most successful R&B groups of all time.

They say she is a hero because she was willing to protest a regime and risk her life for the cause. I guess it is comparable to a firefighter running into a burning building to save someone knowing they may never make it out.
But I find many of the tragic things that happen in life are actually brought on by people themselves from a decision they made long ago. We all make some bad choices once in awhile and sometimes those consequences come around to bite us days, weeks, months or even years later.
Classic example are people who live down by a river which floods every year. They know the river floods, they see it happen every year and every year they called on us (I was in search and rescue once in my life) to come save their home. We do what we can only to see them stay put and ask for flood help again the next year.
The river floods, you lose your home and things, make the choice to leave then. Don't rebuild in the same spot only knowing it will happen again.
Perhaps this woman was in the wrong place at the wrong time at no fault of her own, but she probably also knew that it is essentially a war in the streets but still chose to go out there in the middle of it all. Perhaps years earlier she had a chance to leave that place. She knew that Iran was a militant regime yet she chose to stay and risk what she had. Heroes are made out of people who make risky decisions imposed on them out of no fault of their own but those who make decisions to put themselves in those situations are just stupid.
I am not trying to start some flame war here. Just telling it as I see it.
