The Flash Interface Is Poorly Done.

The Flash Interface Is Poorly Done., The program itself is a good one, but the Interface is poor.

Here I am today on Sunday finishing up a Flash project. I have figured out the ActitionScript coding and the other parts of Flash and I have another Interface headache. Every thing else has been figured out. For some reason Flash will not let me resize the library window. The program will simply not let me get down to the bottom right hand corner so that I can click the bottom and scroll it up a bit and in so doing resize the library window. These sort of Interface headaches come up to often with Flash.

This should not be difficult, but they make it that way because in my opinion the Flash program Interface is poorly done. I have these sort of problems with the Flash program continually. I don't mind figuring out complex and detailed things. This takes time, but I understand this. But to me there is no excuse for Flash doing such a poor job with their Interface. And I am not a beginner with Flash. I have studied it off and on for over two years now. But handling the Interface should be doable for beginners and advanced alike.

O.K. back to trying to control the Flash Interface. If there are any Flash programmers out there I am going to keep spreading the word on this until you fix your program. And I am not the only one who believes this. My local Flash teacher who is away for the summer has written a Flash Lynda.com book and he says the same thing. That the Flash Interface is not very good.

Yeah I kind of agree. I don't know how much Flash CS4 has improved, but I remember CS3 being a bit of a pain.

The best thing adobe did was make their flex sdk freely available - these days I just code in vi and compile with mxmlc on the command line; which works out great if you don't mind missing the native flash components, there's plenty of open source alternatives anyway smile.gif

Don't get me wrong. I think Flash is a very good program in what it does in the way of interactive dynamic graphics. Between Flash and ActionScript you can really do a lot with it. I have done some fairly good files with it and I am just scratching the surface with all that this program can do. But I should be able to use my mouse and move the pointer down to the bottom right hand corner of the of the various windows, for example the all important library window, and resize it so that I can see everything in the window. I am no genius and I know very few. One of the main things in doing good Flash files is to keep everything organized, from your interface to your ActionScript coding. Just like with your Interface if our ActionScript coding is well organized this greatly helps to simplify our projects so that we can do more.

If anyone has another suggestion on resizing the window other than what I have described above please post it here. Thank you for listening to me.

Okay, I maay be way off base here, but I believe you are talking about trying to resize the library panel in Flash. Now, I didn't see a version in the OP, so I am not positive this will be the same (I am using CS4 on Windows), but the library panel won't resize when you drag the bottom right, instead try draggin the bottom left (I am using a docked panel also, don't know if it is the smae with you...)

Resizing seems to work fine that way.

Hope that helps, and makes some sense.

I am using Flash CS3 and it is the bottom right hand corner, when facing and looking at the screen, that you drag to resize. After using Flash today and finishing another file. I just turned Flash back on and I noticed that now when opening the library window it is now about half the size from what it was and attached to the stage just above it. I did not attach it to the stage. It just decided on its own to attach itself. It must have decided this on its own from all the file work and importing to the stage and then library of Adobe Illustrator files that I did today. Or perhaps I breathed on my computer screen in a peculiar manner. And yes, now I can resize the window. Previously the library window was hanging so low on my screen that I could not even get my pointer to the bottom of either corner, right or left. That was the problem.

And below is one of my web site pages that I have recently written that uses Flash/ActionScript. Thanks for conversing with me on this.
