Well, most of the active .NET developers know that soon Microsoft will release the .NET 4.0 platform, as well as the new Visual Studio 2010. There will be many improvements and fixes in the new release, but how many of you will make the instant switch to the platform? I can say that I will switch to Visual Studio 2010 (obviously, with .NET 4.0) the moment it appears on DreamSpark and Express Editions download page. There are so many additions and improvements that I am eager to learn more about the new product with my hands on it.

What about you?

I will probably look at the relevance of the platform and decide. But still not so sure yet.

For those of you interested in some interactive demonstrations of what .NET 4.0 and Visual Studio 2010 brings into the development world, I would recommend to check out the 10-4 show on Channel 9.

Unless there are sensational additions to the .NET library, I don't think I'll use it right away.

It depends on what you mean as sensational. There are several major improvements in the Team System as well as some improvements in the language set (Visual Basic especially). Web application development becomes more efficient too, so there are really a couple of interesting moments coming with this realease of VS.

I've heard .NET 4.0 is alot faster in certain areas than previous versions, so I'm definitely going to take a good look at it, and probably move straight over (just like 3.5)! biggrin.gif

I heard there were significant improvements in Multithreading capability.. to make it easier to design applications that utilize multithreading. That sounds great.. and I will be trying some of it out to see what the new libraries include and can do for me.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I wouldn't make the switch from a commercial POV as the end user's may not have it installed. .NET 3.5 was okay as it came preinstalled on Vista. However, from a personal POV, I may mess around with it but probably not work on anything serious that actually uses 4.0 features (unless user's can still run those applications on pre 4.0 runtime?)
