hi

I'm wanting to try and make a chess board game in C++ I'm just wondering how best I might plan the chess game out, in terms of how many different pages of coding there should be i.e. one for the basics of the chess pieces (inheritance class) and then another for the pieces themselves. this is something I think may let the project down and so any advice on this area would be great.

anyway the requirements that I've set myself are

it's got to be a 2D interface
it's got to have all the the basic rules of normal chess (for now)
the graphics will be collected from another game (for the time being)
the computer has to make basic (not logically) moves for now, hoping to expand on this greatly
there has to be an option for multiplayer most likely a toolbar at the top at all times (so I can add other features like time limit to move)

I know this is a lot to ask so if you have some concise words to summaries what I need to think about while planning and while making the project or if there are an links to good advise about other project planning that would still be greatly Appreciated

I'm hoping I can then show this to university while in the interviews, I've got a year to complete it.

For a first game programming project, this may be biting off quite a bit more than you can chew, I would suggest some lower level games such as tic tac toe, connect4, or battleship to get your skills up to par. Tackling a large project such as this initially can cause a lot of frustration and is doomed to little or no progress.
