Miranda IM http://www.miranda-im.org/ Pidgin/GAIM alternate. Seems to run slightly faster from my experience Runs on: Windows (Can be ported to Linux using Wine supposedly, I have not verified this personally)
Portable Apps http://portableapps.com/ Though not techincally an application within itself (unless you count the suite), this site contains portable versions (in other words, versions you can run from a jump drive/external HDD/iPod/Whatever you want) of a lot of the software mentioned in this thread as well as many others. Perfect if you find yourself having to use different computers constantly where you don't have "your" apps installed.
I've also been using Komodo Edit (link) Which is pretty good editor for PHP and Javascript, from ActiveState. They have a commercial version called Komodo IDE. They are in the process of going open source with the core.
