Looking for a day of the week Algorithm, little help?

My Contributions
I'm using Java, but any basic algorithm will do. I'm using an object Date with three private members, all integers, two-digit month, two-digit day, and a four-digit year[mm/dd/yyyy].

Surely in java there is a function is some library to turn a date into the day of the week.
