To promote the new Windows 7, Microsoft launched an upgrade program for several PC vendors. The idea behind it is if you buy a PC with Windows Vista from that specific vendor (that is offering the upgrade), you will later be able to upgrade to Windows 7 for free. The offer, however, is limited to a specific purchase period. Also, if you are currently purchasing several computer with Windows Vista, you will only be able to upgrade 25 of them for free. You will need to contact Microsoft about getting a Volume License if you need more than 25 update licenses.

There is an upgrade FAQ currently available at Dell and HP.
