facts: new website which works great, but the email doesn't end up in the email inbox. i have a form on the site which is supposed to send all queries to info@tampadetox.com. but neither test data nor a simple email query to the same box from hotmail actually ends up in the inbox.

the site has spam assassin which i suppose could be the problem. but how does one filter email while allowing future clients to get through?

all suggests welcome!

First, I'd check the settings on your spam filter, and see if something there is stopping mail from getting through (send from a variety of email addresses just to make sure). Secondly, disable the spamassassin, and see if mail gets through...it's also possible that your host does not have your site or their server configured to send email...

So niether email from an external source (sent from hotmail) or using the form is getting through? Is the mail ending up in another folder besides the inbox?

i tested the spam assassin by using the internal testing tool provided on cpanel, the one where the default form shows the test@localhost and you change the from and to sections. this is what came back.

Filter Trace

Filter Trace Results:

Return-path copied from sender
Sender = tampade@titan.servicehost.us
Recipient = tampade@titan.servicehost.us
Testing Exim filter file "/etc/vfilters/tampadetox.com"

Filtering did not set up a significant delivery.
Normal delivery will occur.

its odd to think that this really tests the spam filter, since the trace seems to go around in circles. does this mean the email is getting though, but ending up somewhere other than my inbox? i'm thinking 'no'.

i have an autoresponder set up and that is working, but the subject heading in my website inbox is mail delivery failed, returning message to sender. clearly i've set up the autoresponder incorrectly, if it sends a 'thanks for contacting us' message when i receive nothing in my in box.

any suggestions?

The permissions on the mail folder are not set right... either on purpose, or accident. You'll probably need to contact the web host. Is this a free host?
