Microsoft recently published a research paper (from the Microsoft Research division) regarding a new development - the Gazelle Web Browser. The interesting part is that this browser's architecture is built that way, that it is in fact an multi-principal operating system. It is based on the .NET platform and it has its own kernel that ensures system stability and security. The research paper demonstrates that this new system architecture will ensure better robustness, security and backwards compatibility.

The research papers are available here and here.

I'll be honest and say I didn't read that far into the PDF file... but is this the same idea as the Chrome OS Google just announced?

It might be similar. What's curious is the development of Intel's Moblin platform despite their heavy involvement with Chrome and the new Chrome OS.

"Cloud" storage/computing will be the inevitable future.

Kudos to Microsoft for jumping on this and keeping .NET alive for another decade at least!!

Read about this the other day. It was conveniently announced less than a week after Chrome OS was announced. sleep.gif
