WEll, C++ is still the standard for windows programming, although any of the .NET languages (C#, VB.NET,others) could be used. Some like using VB as well, but it's not my personal favourite.

You can find some excellent tutorials on the matter by googling such terms as c++ windows programming and c++ MFC programming.

As far as compilers go, I'm not sure what your resources are like, but there are some excellent free ones, including the ones listed here, g++, and djgpp.

I just started learning C++ myself this summer, and overall, it's not too complicated. 'Course it certainly can be if you want it to be.... tongue.gif

Sadly, I'm not yet good enough to make any cool programs yet. sad.gif So far, I've gotten really good at making programs for finding prime numbers, though.... tongue.gif

I just can't get C++. I have a book, but it just shows basic program structure, nothing on how to give a screen output. Which confuses me. I'm currently only using Blitz Basic - which is very good, and of course all web coding stuff.

Blitz Basic is an interesting language, but primarily directed towards game programmers...it does lack some of the object oriented functionality required for some windows type applications.

Windows programming w/ C++ is generally done with MFC (which takes a little getting used to, and usually no "learn c++ in..." book will cover it). However, Microsoft (at least of what I'm aware of) is slowly phasing out MFC for Windows Forms (part of the .NET library). From my experience w/ C# and managed c++, windows forms and .net is the way to go.
