If you are going to be looking at an electronic roll call type application, why not go the whole hog and automate everything? The system we supplied was really simple - it took a signature and converted it into an image to be printed on an ID card. As well as doing this, there is no reason why it could not be expanded to take fingerprints as well as signatures.
You could then have the fingerprint scanners in the classrooms so everyone scans in when they arrive (and maybe when they leave). You could even go so far as to have this all conencted to a central database with everyone's timetable stored in it, so if anyone scans into the wrong class, or misses a class, they system can email (or page or something) the class lecturer.

These are just ideas for you. We do not have a system which would allow you to do that and while I could provide you with a software sample for our signature program, it would do no good without a specific type of signature pad.
