Hey,

I've been doing some research on both Python and Ruby, and decided it's a good idea for me to learn at least one of them. I'm having troubles deciding the one I'll start with though.

From what I read, I figured it's best to go with either IronPython or JRuby. I'm familiar with both Java and .Net (C#, vb, and soon to come c++).

Can anyone point out the big practical differences between the two? Which one has the best dev tools, which one the biggest market, and which one is the least likely to die off?

Thnx in advance! smile.gif

Cheers

Both have powerful followings. Python is heralded as a great, quick and easy langauge. Ruby is exceptionally powerful, and likes to be as object-oriented as possible. Both are open source, both have web frameworks (Rails for Ruby, Django for Python). Python uses indentation to delimit blocks, Ruby uses {} and do/end. Ruby takes after Perl in a lot of its idioms. Python strives to have "one obvious solution" to a problem.

Wel, that does not make my choise much easier smile.gif

I think I'm going for (J)Ruby though, after seeing some pretty impressive demonstrations of the language itself and Rails.

Cheers!
