Hi all...

I've been bugging a friend of mine to post this up here but he has yet to...

Soooo...being the nosy wench that I am...anime1.gif

He has been working on this for a while now and is looking for input on this project. He would like it if people examined the specifications he's outlined for CodeBASIC and give him suggestions on how to improve or enhance it.

Overview

CodeBASIC is the basis of a programing language that will strive to bring coding back to the basics. This site will provide the specifications to be able to deliver a unified programing language based off of a mix of BASIC and C/C++.

Well, I am intrigued by the proposals (although I am not in agreement fully with the reasoning for it's need). It does want to solve the problems of portability - much like java - but I have not seen any specifications that will solve the memory leaks that such platform independant languages are prone to (of course, it is not fully fleshed out as of yet). I've only done a brief runthrough of the site, not in depth enough to comment intelligently...when I have, I'll likely post there.

Offhand, I appreciate the differentiation your friend has made between structures and classes, although I'm not sure I agree that c++ has failed to make that distinction. I'd also have some questions regarding the plan to have no distinction betwen the assignment and comparative operators (= and ==). As mentioned by a user on the site, this could cause problems if the proposed language will have a ternary operator...and I find the ternary operator quite useful.

All in all, very interesting. I'd like to reserve further comment until such time as more material is available, but it seems to have promise.
