Out of curiousity- Does anyone have any software ideas. I was trying to come up with a few but what I came up with were similarities to other softwares.

I was going to start a project to write some backup software for one of our customers. They are really upset with their current software. But, I lost interest, & I'll just make a batch file that does it.

You're going to have a really hard find new software ideas. And I definately don't think anyone is going to give away a real unique one, they are too rare. biggrin.gif

lynx

It runs from command line and without x11... that doesn't count as commandline?

It's a text based web browser. In Linux even firefox can run from the command line. I think what Neumann meant was a command line driven web browser. It's basically not possible. Or at least not practical to run a web browser from the command line.

I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that's what he meant. Like a joke.

But firefox can't run without Xorg ( I get what you meant by CL now though, just had to clear that up ^.^ ).

And so this post is actually useful..

Try looking through Martyr2's Mega Project Ideas List! find one that you can put a unique twist to. It would be the unique twist that would truly make it worthwhile.

If you are thinking about commercial programs, try to check some freelancing sites and steal ideas there.

If it's just for practice, try the Martyr2's mega list syfran posted above or try to invent a wheel again: create notepads, calculators etc. Or if you are using visual studio/netbeans or another IDE which can have addons or plugins, think some feature you don't think is good and create a better one.

Even for commercial programs, if you can put something unique on one of the bigger projects on the list, you still got something.

I really want to be unique and different. At the least make an improvement on an original.

Here's what I have so far from everyone's posts'.

-Text based web browser
-Command based web browser
-Back up software
-add-ons and/or plugins
-notepads
-calculators

Sharing is Caring!!! Care to let us know what your idea was? Its like missing the last 10 minutes of a movie ( most annoying thing that can ever happen).
