Hi, I was just reading about the "open-core" debate I have read some about it before as well.

And I just started to wonder, if I write say some awesome software or anyone really, could they have the software free for the public and hobby use and have some other licenses for companies?

I know how QT have GPL and then LGPL, I guess it is one way but still not how I thought...

So is there any license that forbids companies to use the code for commercial use? Without buying the commercial license...

I guess this might not be possible, but I thought I can always ask... My idea was that the code still should be free for people to look at and for a community to use but that the company behind the software still could make some more money...

In short, Yes.

For Example, Oracle provides almost all of their software free to those that use it for investigational or educational use. Commercially you must purchase a license to use the software legally.

It's done all the time.

But as I understand it's not open source? And that was my meaning of free... I might have forgotten the term open source in my first post..
