College Comp Sci Programs

I'm a community college student planning on transferring next fall, and had a general question about CS departments at colleges / universities. From what I can gather, certain schools tend to focus on certain programming languages for CS majors. When looking at the courses required to transfer to each school, some say to take classes in Java, others say C++, etc. Is the assumption that each school tends to teach to a certain language correct? I want to learn C++ mainly (I figure I may pick up other languages as I go along), so I thought I'd get some input from people who have some experience with this.
Any info is greatly appreciated!

Yes, from my experience schools tend to stick to one language...
But you have to remember, the purpose of CS courses in college is not to teach you a certain language... but to teach you how to program in general.
School usually stick to 1 - 2 languages because they do not want to get hung up on learning the different syntax specific to each language. That stuff really isnt important and can be easily self-taught. Once you master a langauge, you can pretty much master any language.

What language to use shouldn't really be an issue, because as thursdayniac said, you should be learning how to program in general.
I would say that it comes down to preference, but I think you should learn C++. One reason most people say to learn Java is because it is easier and is strict towards object orientation.
For the time being, learn the language you're forced to learn. If you have a choice, I would suggest learning C++. Expect to know both (and then some) later in life.
I hope this post was helpful.

OK, so I guess my assumption of school's focusing on one language is correct. But thanks for the info about what to expect in terms of later CS curriculum.
I'm currently learning C++. My goal is to get into video game development, and from what I hear C++ is most widely used.
