The laptop is a Gateway solo 9300 p3 550 the wireless card is a trend tew - 226pc

MY os installation went ok I installed "everything" in the software packages. However I cannot figure out how to configure networking in linux. There is stuff there I never seen before and it frightens me

From what I can find off hand, there is a cardbus Tew-226pc

wlan-ng project says:
TRENDware 802.11b TEW-226PC Cardbus Realtek?

But you say its PCMCIA, so thats weird. Wireles in linux is really supported by cards with an ornico or prism2 chipset. You may have a realtek chipset which makes it harder.

HOWEVER! there is the ndiswrapper project that lets windows drivers work sometimes through an emulation layer.
NDISwrapper
Its prolly your best bet now
