Hello dream.in.code,

Firstly, let me start by quickly introducing myself. I will post, of coarse, in the actual introduction thread shortly after. My name is Jake, I am a school student from Victoria, Australia. I am interested in computers and the ICT industry in general. I will shortly be undertaking study for my CCNA module 1 and 2. But now, to my dilemma.

For those who know, this week (22/10/09) was muck-up day for our High School Students. They turn 18, and leave school, to either continue study elsewhere, or to move into the workforce. To signal their farewell, they are given one day, at the end of their 13 years of schooling, to cut loose. Dress up funny, pull harmless pranks ect.

Having seen many groups go through, Next year, at around this time, it will be my turn for this event, and my prank, I have been planning for some time.

I want to make a worm. But before some of you freak out, and get angry at me, and preach laws at me, I want to make a harmless worm, which reverts it's "damage" after some time. I have a small network at home, that I can do testing on. The job the worm should fulfill would be quiet harmless and fun.

I want it to change the bootscreen, of windows XP, for a week or so, then set it back to normal, then delete itself. No harm, no damage, no data stolen, nothing damaging.

I beleive this would be a excellent and harmless prank, which all the students would remember. Every time they go to log on, they see a bootscreen with something along the lines of "Muck Up Day 2010, Courtesty of XXXX" or something similar. Teachers too, if the network setup is as it appears to be.

This is where you guys, the community come in. My programming and networking knowledge is basic, at best. I'm not asking someone to GIVE me the code. I'm asking for someone to teach me how to do this, be a part of this with me. Hell, even groups of people. Think of this as a community project, something that we all spend a year working on, and the result week of fun would be excellent. As is the custom on the internet, I will post pics to prove it's happening biggrin.gif

We have a year, and I simply cannot do this alone. Let me know what you think,

Regards

Jack (Gollod)

I want to make a worm.

Regardless of your reasoning, a program that spreads (worm) is a threat, & can be used as a treat.

If you have any qeustions please read over the Terms of Service.

Uhh yeah, creating a worm, regardless of it's intentions, isnt something we condone nor support here at Dream.In.Code. Even if your intentions are harmless if someone were to take that code they could do harmful things with it (with just small modifications to the code) so I'm closing this before anyone tries to offer any code. Also, you can read the forum rules here about what is and is not allowed in this community smile.gif

So you do want it to be harmful

This would breach in my country under The Computer Misuse Act 1990

You would but other wouldn't like the school (Me for one)
It is very likely to be against the computer use policies at the school.

Please do, so the lawyers could mount evidence against you.
