So the day has finally come where Windows 7 is released!
It's been said that Windows 7 is set to break retail records, with the biggest gross pre-order in Amazon's history, more than the most recent Harry Potter book - and the demand is still here.
I'm curious, have you bought Windows 7 today or know anyone that has?? If not, are you going to do so in the near future?? If so, what are your thoughts on it??
From a programming perspective, have you checked out all of the new features that are relevant to us such as the Jump Lists and being able to seperate our application tabs into different "virtual" windows on the taskbar (like IE8)?? I guess on a kindof related note, are you looking forward to the release of VS2010?

No. I've never bought an OS, and don't see the need to start now.
Actually, I have no idea how this could happen. Who pre-prders an OS? You have to be a company or a certain level of geek to to that, and most people who are at that level of geek will use a non-MS OS or be happy running the betas until they get round to buying it rather than pre-order. As for companies, you'd hope they'd know better than to rush into things. I'd have thought, anyway. I find it frankly astonishing that there's that much uptake, if it's genuine.

Your loss I guess, I would have phrased it, "are you going to acquire it", shoulda known better
I wasn't implying I run pirated OSs; I run XP on one machine that came with it, OSX on a machine that came with it, Vista on a machine at work, gnu/linux on the rest. I've never been in a situation where I needed to buy one, and never been that eager to get a piece of software anyway
The only reason Windows 7 is so exciting is because it's everything anybody could actually want. Even the few remaining XP Idiots are considering moving to 7 from what I've seen - That's a biggggg step

Aside from the fact it's 8 yea... Nah I didn't mean everyone using Windows XP was an Idiot, I meant the Idiots that preach it's the best, that Vista was a failure and that 7 will be the exact same. Seems that some of them are coming around to the fact that Windows 7 is the future.

Well, for anyone who doesn't know...Windows 7 = Vista 2.0. If you look at the version number, its 6.1 (Windows 7) and Vista is (6.0). ON-TOPIC: I could pick it up for free with my MSDN Subscription. I just gotta figure out how to get duel-boot working with Vista.
I've got 2 copies of Ultimate coming though don't know exactly when. Could be another few weeks before I see them. I'm looking forward to it but I can't say I'm giddily excited about it.
I got it a month ago or so through MSDNAA and have been using it since. As for pre-ordering it could be people who have bought new computers and decided to wait that little extra time to get a Windows 7 OEM version rather than a Vista OEM version.
I have it from the university. Looking to buy a copy but need the money first. Funny enough my brother who believes hitting the computer with as much force as possible makes it work, bought a copy from a friend of his who sells them. (Legally) Still how he got it before me I will never know. :\
I bought it. Why? I have been using Win7 for months and found it deserving of my money. I preordered it. Why? Because I was able to get it for $29.99 instead of the much higher retail pricing.
I got the full professional version from the msdnaa at uni for free as well but I can’t really install it until I get back home because it’s not possible to upgrade from the windows 7 ultimate RC to the windows 7 professional release which is understandable but a complete pain as all my personal data is on a network drive that I sync to my laptop. I also think I've been forced into installing it onto all the machines my family has so that will be a few days of pain when I get back.
Damn, that's a minor problem I guess. I didn't think about it when I purchased my upgrade. Guess I will have to install vista or something first. I also had the copy from MSDNAA but I used that license on one of my computers already and needed another.
