Suggested Windows version for GameDev?

New D.I.C Head Joined: 10 Apr, 2008 Posts: 25 My Contributions	Does it really matter which Windows version to use? x86 or x64, XP SP3 or Vista, or even a new one Seven? Or it is really matter, so which one is suits game developers the best, both for compatibility, new technologies (DirectX10), x86 or x64, and Visual Studio 2008? Hmmm.. Or it shouldn't be Windows at all? Kinda, developing Windows games on Linux? Would like to read some opinions before I format my hdd for a fresh system... Thank you!

D.I.C Regular Joined: 30 Jul, 2008 Posts: 485 Thanked: 30 times My Contributions	Depends on the intended audience. If you wish to use DX10 you need at least Vista. If you use dx9 you have a range from Windows XP and up. You can compile the same code on both x86 and x64 systems (at least a friend say so). It is just build in different ways. You should use the latest versions of the DX SDK and compiler, about IDE it's a question about taste and that you can use it with DX SDK without to much problem. I should use a windows OS if I create for windows and a Linux system for linux. Thats what I think anyway!
