i have seen on blogs
like
TAGS,
CATAGORIES,
ARCHIVES,

and i am going to make php blog...
can anyone tell me the purpose or idea behind of all of these?

So you want to know what a Category is?

When you write a post you assign it a category. If your post is about Web Development you can assign it to a category called Web Development therefore when a user or reader such as myself visits your blog I can read all the posts you have created in regards to web development instead of funneling through 100's of posts I do not care to read about.

Archives -

Typically stores your older posts, say anything you wrote in the month of June.

Tags -
Creates anchor tags that help you locate certain keywords that appear in your posts.

I still recommend looking into Wordpress. smile.gif cheers

This is my explanation:
Tags - this will be used for searching within your blog, for indexing, for SEO.
Categories - you need this so that the readers will know where to look for a topic. For example you have 2 categories, Business and Family. If someone is in your site and want to read more about anything under Family, he will look for it in the Family category.
Archives - you do not want to display all your blogs especially your old blogs. It will be placed in an archive.
