I used this method of creating a bootable flash drive: http://www.mobilecomputermag.co.uk/2008070...-a-floppy-drive

It seemed the simplest, but my PC won't boot from my flash drive even though I changed the boot order in my bios settings. Any ideas what's wrong, or maybe a better method?

download the fedora usb creator. That is by far the easiest way to create a bootable flash drive.

Cheers

I suggest using this for creating a bootable flash drive (I used it for installing Ubuntu on my Netbook)

Psychocoder, I used your utility, and it boots to dos now, but I can't access anything. I'm not entirely sure how this works... I was going to put my bios files on my bootable usb drive and run them from there, but I can't access them. Will I need to put these on a seperate thumb drive and access them from there?

Ok, I finaly got my bios flashed :-P Seems I just had to find the right dos image for what I wanted to do. One called usbdos finaly worked right, and I ended up using an HP utility that let me format it as a ms-dos boot disk, though I imagine the programs you guys gave me work as well (I was just trying different things to get this to work tongue.gif). I just put my new bios and flash program in a file named bios on the usb stick and ran it from there. Also my old bios only recognized my usb stick as a hard drive rather than removable drive, so I had to adjust that in my boot order. Anyway, after a slight scare in which I got only a black screen after I flashed it and rebooted (thought I bricked it!), a second reboot brought everything up. Now it's all running great and Windows 7 finally uses all 4 gigs of RAM :-)
