Hello world is the classic first program for any language. Just getting that far is great because it shows that you're interested enough to get the development environment and play with it long enough to get it to do something you want. smile.gif So far so good, I think, so don't get depressed because you're stuck!

I was traumatized by Visual Basic a few years ago, so I can't recommend anything specific, but when it comes to learning a new language you would be much better off with a book as your main reference. Tutorials are way too hit or miss, even though they can be used to add to your knowledge base as side references. A quick browse of your local bookstore should turn up at least one book that you feel comfortable with.

Oh, and a forum with helpful people never hurts. But I get the feeling you already figured that out. smile.gif

It is indeed a friendly fourm...and welcome!!

As for programs, you can try and think of something you might find useful in everyday life, and design an application around that...or think of a repetitive task that you often perform, and automate it.

Applications that often teach the user a great deal about programming include writing your own instant messenger client, or an application that will parse useful data from a file that contains extraneous data.

I don't work with VB much (like Voodoo, it's not my first choice), but almost anything can be done with it...it's quite versatile.

Hehe, I was just about to say that myself. smile.gif Ironically, the problem with suggesting personal programs is that it's so personal. Something I think is fun and educational could be boring and useless to you. It's even harder in this case because I'm not a big VB person that can rattle off good programs that you can learn from like I could with other languages.
