Hi everyone! Im a student who is looking for pointers on fully implementing a C/C++ project. The project concerns a program that is capable of starting at a directory and scanning it and its subdirectories for files, opening these files and counting the words (whitespaces) in them. Now the word counting part of this I am not having difficulty with... what I am having problems with is finding a good way to dig through directories for files. I was told the stat() function (this program is to run on a Unix based machine, an IBM SP cluster in fact but thats off the topic) would be helpful for my purposes but im having trouble finding good detailed descriptions/examples of the stat() function in action, can anyone help?

my best advice for posix functions would to read the man page on it.

run `man 2 stat` in a termial, and that will give you some info
